The Effect of Grape Seed Extract on Lipid Profile in Diabetic Mice

Abstract The aim of this work is to evaluate the role Grape Seed extracts (GSE) from three grape cultivars (Ahmer, Halawani, and Kamali) grown in Iraq as well pomace on lipid profile diabetic mice. Fifty adult female mice were divided into five groups. Negative control (untreatment), positive (treated) diabetic, treated with GSE. After six weeks; serum liver tissue homogenate parameters evaluated. HPLC results showed that Ahmer (red seeds) has highest concentration proanthocyanidins polymers catechine, procyanidin, epicatechine (796, 170, 244) μg/g, respectively For it was chosen for dosage, while lowest amounts 489, 99, 143 respectively. Oral dose seed natural extract (600 mg/kg/day) reduced level profile: TC, TG, LDL, VLDL, (106.83±2.13, 84.66±4.27,13.83±1.16 21.33±1.21) respectively, except HDL which increased 76.33±1.03. GSE normalized elevated levels kidneys functions. Similarly, Liver histological analysis shows groups exhibited morphology near group.
